Kybella Fat Dissolver

Sometimes, no matter how healthy we eat or how much we exercise, certain pockets of fat just won't budge. Submental fullness (often called a "double chin") is a common concern caused by genetics, aging, or weight changes.

Kybella® is the first and only FDA-approved injectable treatment that destroys fat cells in the area under the chin to improve your profile. The active ingredient is synthetic deoxycholic acid—a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat.

At Compass Light, Alysia O’Brien uses Kybella to permanently sculpt the jawline, giving clients in Cohasset, Scituate, and Hingham a sleeker, more youthful contour without the need for liposuction.

How Kybella Works and What To Expect

Kybella is an injectable treatment made from synthetic deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the body that helps absorb fat. It is FDA-approved to permanently dissolve chin fat, providing a non-surgical solution for a more defined jawline. Typically, 1-3 treatments are needed for optimal results, which become visible 4-6 weeks after each treatment.

The Treatment: The appointment typically takes 15–20 minutes. Alysia will map out the injection grid tailored to your anatomy and apply a topical numbing agent for comfort.

The Downtime: Transparency is key. Kybella causes an inflammatory response; this is actually how it destroys the fat cells! You should expect significant swelling in the treated area (often described as a "bullfrog" look) for about 3–7 days post-treatment. This is a normal sign that the treatment is working.

The Result: Once the swelling subsides and the fat cells are processed by your body, you will see a visible reduction in fullness. Most patients require 2–4 treatments spaced 6 weeks apart for optimal results.

How many Kybella treatments will I need?

Most patients need between 1-3 treatments to achieve optimal results, with each session spaced about 4-6 weeks apart.

Is there any Downtime?

Some swelling, bruising, and numbness can occur after the treatment, typically resolving within a few days to a week. Most patients can return to their normal activities shortly after the procedure.

Are the results permanent?

Yes, once the fat cells are destroyed, they do not return. Maintaining a stable weight will help preserve the results.
